Description of Job Duties

Provides instruction, research and outreach services to first- and second-year students of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic and academic backgrounds. Develops and implements fresh ideas and new directions for an information literacy instruction and assessment program focused on undergraduates’ academic success and their retention.

Teaches research and information literacy skills to first- and second-year undergraduate students. Collaborates with librarians, course instructors, and university partners to develop course-related library instruction, web-based tutorials, and guides, focusing on building foundational research skills needed for academic success.

Fosters undergraduates’ sense of belonging and inclusion, collaborating with diverse UTSA student services and organizations. Plans and participates in student engagement programs and outreach activities across campus.

Maintains current knowledge of curriculum, academic success and retention programs, academic goals of faculty, and scholarly needs of diverse students. Partners with the first-year Writing and Pathways programs.

Builds partnerships with student support units, raising awareness about the ways the library can help students achieve academic success and persist at school.

Assesses library instruction and outreach programs for the first- and second-year undergraduate students.

Provides research assistance to students, faculty, and staff via chat, email, phone, and in person.

Periodic:

Serves on library and university committees and task forces.

Participates in usability studies and focus groups to better understand the needs and behaviors of first- and second-year students.

Writes reports.

Attends appropriate conferences and training sessions in area of specialization.

May represent UTSA at local, regional and national meetings.
