The Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP), under the UTSA Institute for P-20 Initiatives, is an academically rigorous, mathematics-based, summer enrichment program, conducted at several college and university campuses in San Antonio as well as across the State of Texas and Nation. PREP identifies middle and high school students who have an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and helps prepare those students for success in advanced studies and careers by providing a challenging academic program that emphasizes the development of abstract reasoning and problem solving skills and exposure to careers through speakers and field trips.

The program is presented over the course of four summers. If funding permits, PREP expects to serve 800 students for PREP 2018. It will be located at most college and university campuses throughout San Antonio. The program will include coursework, team projects, class presentations, field trips, special events and examinations.

Positions available for mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, physics, cyber security, nanotechnology, robotics.

Program Instructors should anticipate beginning employment on June 11, 2018 for staff orientation, training and program preparation.

Description of Job Duties

Program Instructors will formally teach three (3) to four (4) 1-1.5 hour classes daily. They must be available eight (8) hours Monday – Thursday during program operation and must:
- Attend daily staff meetings and/or planning sessions.
- Formulate lesson plans from a set of PREP curriculum (provided on first day), and in accordance with PREP objectives and philosophy.
- Prepare and grade homework, quizzes, tests, final examinations and other assessments.
- Determine grades for students enrolled in their classes and maintain online gradebook.
- Be available for one-to-one tutoring before and after classes, as needed or requested.
- Assist with PREP special activities related to the academic components of the program.
- Work with Program Assistant Mentors daily to develop and coordinate lesson plans and educational support activities for effective instruction.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Site Directors or Program Coordinators.
- Instructional materials for all classes will be provided to the teaching staff.
